Any deviation from this Die Building Requirements & Specifications will require a written request from vendor to the Su-dan Corporation Project Engineer.

I. Purpose 目的
A. The purpose of this metal stamping die standard is to provide detailed instructions for use in the design, construction, and testing of all metal stamping dies supplied to the Su-dan Corporation

1. Su-dan requires die(s) to produce finished parts that conform to:

II. Scope
A. All metal stamping dies supplied to Su-dan will comply with the requirements specified herein and as stated in the die design and construction data sheets.

III. Die Classifications 模具级别
A. All dies will be constructed for inter-changeability of perishable die blocks, punches, retainers, die buttons, and pilots.

IV. Metal Stamping Dies - General Requirements: 五金模具--一般要求
A. Die design and construction data sheet: 模具设计与组立数据表
1. The Su-dan Engineer shall complete and submit data sheet with each die proposal request (Including shut height, feed levels,parallels, etc.).

2. Data sheet will be updated at final die design review, including the Project Engineer and the vendor's recommendations, which will become part of the general die specifications.

B. Die design approval: 模具设计审核
1. A strip layout is required on all parts before formal design is started. The strip layout is to reflect the stock width, the progression, and the tonnage required to produce the stamping. Strip layouts should be developed so that scrap pieces are not left in the die.
在正式设计之前必须提供料带排布,料带包含料带宽,步距,冲床吨位,料带应保证废料不停留在模具上.
2. To conserve material, the edge of the part may be the edge of the coil material wherever the part design will permit. Using edge of coil material as part entity will require written approval from the Tool Engineer.

3. The strip should be developed to maintain maximum strip strength for the greatest possible distance through the die.

4. A die should be designed to minimize any strip distortion which would tend to change the distance between pilot holes (alter the progression).

5. All die designs will include part number, stamped on the part if indicated on the part print and a Su-Dan ID. stamp if required.

6. All die designs that involve both single and/or double progressive dies that produce the following:

a. A right and left hand part, if symetrically opposite, will be equipped with either "R" and "L
identification on each part.

7. All die capable of producing multiple level designs from that die, must be equipped with a provision for interchangable part identification to distinguish all variations capable of being produced from that die. Consult with Project Manager for specific identification.

8. All die drawing numbers plus special die drawings will be supplied at preliminary review.

9. Provision for loading and unloading of raw materials for all dies, as well as part ejection and scrap removal will be covered during the die design.

10. Designs will avoid excessive use of lubrication to produce stampings。

12. Full scale preliminary drawings must be reviewed on site between Project Manager and Vendor. Drawings must be approved by Project Manager prior to the start of construction.

13. The die supplier will furnish in writing the developed blank size along with the preliminary tool drawing(s).

15. Dies are to be designed so they can be maintained in the press using inserts in forms and cut off sections. All forming inserts must be adjustable to accommodate stock thickness variance.

16. Wear points of the die sections must be inserted for economical maintenance, replacement cost, and adjustability for stock variance.

17. Die should contain a minimum of one idle station to accommodate future design considerations. i.e. restrike, cam pierce, etc.

20. Die progress reports are to be submitted twice a month to the Su-dan Project Manager.

21. Paper is to be 34" x 22" with the standard Su-dan title block.

22. If roll sized drawings are supplied they will be folded to 34" x 22" size with the title block located in the lower right hand corner.

23. Completed die designs are to be reviewed and approved before die construction begins.

C. Die design ownership: 模具设计所有权
1. The die design supplied to Su-dan under a design and build purchase agreement will become the property of Su-dan. Therefore, no restrictions will be placed on the die design drawings and diskettes by the vendor.

D. Die noise: 模具噪音
1. During the die design and build, consideration will be given to the following:

F. Die design responsibility: 模具设计责任
1. The die design, construction, function, and ability of the die to produce acceptable repetitive production parts will be the sole responsibility of the die supplier.

2. Any errors found in the dies during tryout and final acceptance test will be corrected by the die supplier at no additional cost to Su-dan.

G.Die performance: 模具性能
1. All dies to be designed and constructed considering optimal production rates as designated by the Porject Manager. The Goal is to explore innovative techniques to increase the press Speed at which these dies will operate. This in turn translates Into higher production capacities, in a shorter period of time.

2. All new dies will produce Su-dan production parts to meet first parts approval and part run rate before final acceptance.

V. Die Design Criteria 模具设计标准
A. Preferred components: 首选的零件
1. All metal stamping die(s) supplied to Su-dan will be constructed using the preferred components already identified.

B. Production part materials - Die design relationship : 产品的材料 (与模具设计有关)
1. The production material thickness will be used when calculating the die design dimensions-check with Project Manager for exact tolerances.

2. To optimize material usage, flat blank nominal material thickness will be used along with the minimum inside form radii to calculate material used.

C. Calculating operation tonnage of die: 计算模具工作吨位
1. The calculated operating tonnage of the die will include stripping pressure.

D. General die life and construction: 模具寿命与组装
1. All dies will be provided with a minimum of 4 steel "set blocks," or stop blocks positioned over the parallels. 所有的模具应包含至少四个位于垫脚上的限位块或者限位柱
a. Size of set blocks to be determined by: 限位块的尺寸由以下条件决定
(1) Die area 250 square inches or less, use 2 inch diameter round or comparable area-rectangular set blocks.

3. Die sections will have staggered hole patterns for one-way assembly.

a. There must be a .375-.500" cutting land with all wire burned sections or holes for all parts. These sections must be undercut at 1?° taper to provide the desired cutting land.

b. Dies should be designed for use of wire E.D.M. on die sections, trim and notch punches where applicable. Traditional die making practice must be used so each section can be worked during the repair process. All large wire burned sections should be segmented when possible.

4. Cutting sections will be ground or finished by E.D.M. to remove decarb. All die sections will have a ground seating surface.

5. All pierce die holes will be buttoned unless otherwise specified.

6. Screw holes will be counterbored in the die section . Screw heads will be a minimum of 3/8" plus die cutting land below the die section surface, and screw threads must enter no less than 1.5 times diameter.

7. Where possible, screws will be hex socket head cap screws. Other types of screws, such as set screws, will be hex socket.

8. Refer to company press information to determine the proper shut height, die size, and parallel size needed. 根据公司冲床情况决定适当的闭模高,模具尺寸以及需要的垫脚尺寸。
a. Parallels are to be ground both top and bottom. 垫脚应该研磨上下两个面。
b. Parallel mounting screws will be 2 different sizes from one end to the other.

c. The 2 outer and center parallel on both top and bottom shoe if present are to:

8. Large weldments in die structure will be machined on the mating surfaces, screwed together, welded, and normalized before final machining.

9. Welding on trim steels to make corrections or modifications is acceptable only to complete tryout and first piece approval. Welded trim steel sections must be remade and retried before die is shipped. Welded form steels must be approved by Project Manager.

10. All overhung items, gages, hoses, valves, electrical wires or boxes will be protected with heavy duty guarding, from lift truck mast.

11. Dies with thrust characteristics must be properly heeled and keyed.

a. Heel blocks to have a minimum of 1/8" heeling before work is started.

b. Heel blocks should have screws located on the side of the block toward the thrust.

12. Use D2 steel or better on all cutting and forming sections with heavy usage. Provide kicker pins in punch sections and spring plungers in the stripper when necessary for positive strip removal. Each section is to be doweled separately.

c. In two-out dies the back part must be marked with a 1/8" T stamp as required by part print or Project Managers' direction.

15. Flattening and restrike sections are to be provided, as dictated by part configuration and part print specification. Flattening, forming, and coining steels will go through the stripper in lieu of using the stripper to perform above listed die functions.

16. All dies containing a restrike station should have a parallel under restrike station. Pararllel should have a minimum width to cover entire restrike area.

17. All dies containing coining stations shall have a minimum .750" hardened plate under each station for support.

18. In dies using shave applications, it is best to use a two-out die configuration. This is used to balance cutting forces shave punches must be heeled. Shave area to be outboard of strip stock. Use double pilots to locate parts. Use pilots that are located in lower die half. Use two shave stations as follows:

a. Cutting carrier or cutting of part leaving a male tab on the parts.

20. A die must have sufficient pilots to control the strip adequately in order to produce consistent parts.

21. The following tolerance standards should be adhered to when detailing a progressive die:

b. Linear dimensions in the direction of progression must not be stacked.

22. Extrusion punches must be coated to prevent galling.

23. A minimum of two safety switches must be installed on all progressive dies to probe for proper strip advancement and part out detection.

24. Provide under and over feed protection at the end of the die (strip buckling, misfeed, part ejection, etc.).在模具后端在上下均使用送料保护装置(扣料,误送检测,产品顶出等)
25. All dies should have a quick disconnect junction box for easy hook up to the die protection control.

26. A progression bar (not to exceed prog. x 1" x 1") is to be made of tool steel, stamped with the die progression and hardened to R.C. 52/54. It will be mounted by two 5/16 socket head screws on the front right side of the die.

E. Die safety: 模具安全
1. The design and construction of all dies will not require the operator(s) or other personnel to place their hands or other parts of their body in a pinch point hazard.

a. The use of hand tools must be approved in writing by the Project Manager.

b. Guards will be provided as needed.

2. All dies will be drilled to accommodate eye bolts for lifting and turning the dies. Four tapped handling holes will be provided along the top and bottom edges of the die set. These holes will be a minimum of ?"-10 x 1.75" thread depth.

3. The weight of the die upper half will be stamped on the front face of the punch shoe and the weight of the lower half will be stamped on the front face of the lower shoe in accordance with OSHA requirements. Also, the total die weight is to be stamped on the front face of the lower shoe.

F. Scrap removal: 落料
1. Parts must fall free from die, scrap must shed properly, no air blow-off or assist. If a cylinder ejector must be used, incorporate a proximity safety switch and use non-ferrous materials where it enters the die, or it must be of positive return design.

2. Dies will be constructed with provisions for positive stripping and ejections of the finished part and all generated scrap. 模具应该构造成能够从正面剥落及顶出成品及废料。
a. Air blow-offs have to be specifically approved by the project engineer in writing. The air blast must be cycled with the press stroke. A flow nozzle must be used to reduce noise and volume of air released.

3. Where required, scrap will automatically be removed from the die. The die supplier will provide chutes to prevent the possible build-up of parts and/or scrap under the die. Scrap length should not exceed the pitch of die. In situations where the size of scrap or the overall length of scrap prevents the easy removal from the die,the scrap will be cut into smaller pieces that will aid in their removal.

4.Tooling Engineer will specify additional requirements, such as containers or conveyors, supplied with the die.

H. Die mounting requirements: 模具安装要求:
1. Provisions for die mounting will be specified at the preliminary design review.

1. The die design should include the provisions for sensors, which will include at a minimum, one sensor for detection of progression and one for part out detection. In the case of a double progressive die, two part out sensors will be used.

2. All dies used in conjunction with automatic transfer devices will be equipped with a limit switch or some other electrical signaling device to assure the positive transfer of the part after each stroke of the press.

3. All transfer dies must be protected by limit switches to stop the press in the case of faulty operation.

1. Shear clearances should be designed to minimize burrs with consideration to die life. 8% of metal thick per side or 6% with raw material under .030" thick.

M. Stock guiding and control: 条料导正及控制
1. Direction of feed shall be from right to left hand unless otherwise specified.

6. The pilot full diameter will extend through the stripper and be long enough to locate the stock before the stripper contacts the material (one material thickness).

7. Pilot lower holes are to be buttoned and I.D. of pilot hole should be .005" larger than pilot O.D.

17. All non-standard punches and punch sections are to be fabricated from M-2 and heat treated to RC58-60.

18. When punches of a non standard nature are required in the die, inverted ball lock punches are not acceptable. Punches will be EDM cut with a L-shape and fitted into a special retainer (See Q-5) for secure placement and ease of removal of punch in die, with normal standard stripper window access.
